Panagora Partners with USAID for Five-Year Localize Global Health Security (LGHS) Activity

Panagora is proud to partner with USAID on the new five-year Localize Global Health Security (LGHS) activity. USAID and Panagora mutually recognize the importance of localization in the sustainability and effectiveness of global health security programming. Panagora is thrilled to be entrusted with this important award in which we will work with local organizations and stakeholders to address priority health security gaps at the sub-national level to prevent, detect, and respond to emerging infectious disease threats. We look forward to expanding the global knowledge base on approaches to localizing global health security through a vibrant community of practice, sharing lessons learned in strengthening sub-national partners as part of a health system dedicated to global health security.

Ebola, mpox, and COVID-19 are constant reminders of our vulnerabilities to global health security threats. “Think globally, act locally” is at the heart of stopping infectious disease at the community level and beyond. At Panagora, we view localization as a development imperative. We will draw on our signature approaches in grantmaking and organizational and technical capacity strengthening. Using a system optimization lens, we will strategically support local entities that can make the most difference in achieving health security goals at sub-national, national, and international levels. A lean LGHS team will be located in our Silver Spring office, working in up to 15 countries in Africa and Asia, with a GEM (Grants Engagement Manager) in every country.

LGHS will tackle:

  • Risk Communication, social behavioral change, community engagement (SBCC)
  • Diagnostic and laboratory systems support
  • Minimizing zoonotic disease transmission/Community-based zoonotic disease surveillance
  • Infection prevention and control (IPC)
  • National planning for antimicrobial resistance (AMR) spanning human, animal, crops, food safety, and environmental aspects
  • Outbreak preparedness and response

Our Localization Commitment

“Panagora is thrilled to be chosen to implement this groundbreaking activity for USAID,” says Betsy Bassan, Panagora’s CEO. “We sincerely thank the Global Health Bureau for the acknowledgement inherent in this set-aside award that small businesses are right-sized to drive localization. For Panagora, LGHS hits right at our sweet spot – using grants and organizational strengthening to harness the energy and talent of local partners to address a major global health issue, while also advancing knowledge and practice around localizing health security through a vibrant website and community of practice. We are ready to hit the ground running!”
